Nicole Midori Woodford is a Singaporean film director and writer. She is an alumna of Berlinale Talents, Asian Film Academy, Torino Film Lab and Talents Tokyo. Her debut feature film Last Shadow at First Light, shot in both Singapore and Japan was selected to world premiere at the San Sebastián Film Festival’s New Directors competition in 2023. It has been nominated for two awards, Best Screenplay and Best Performance at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards 2023.
Her short films have competed in various festivals including Busan International Film Festival, Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and Singapore International Film Festival amongst many others. Nicole is a recipient of the prestigious Young Artist Award in 2020 in recognition for her achievements in filmmaking. She is also one of the director-writers for the second season of the acclaimed HBO Asia series FOLKLORE 2. In her works, her exploration of trauma spans from personal violence to the ‘traumatised landscape’. Her process involves immersing herself within the physical spaces, tracing encounters through interviews and improvisation with her actors to evoke truth and memory.
In addition, Nicole is a film lecturer at the School of Art, Design & Media at Nanyang Technological University.
